Campaign Setting

The Big Picture

Rabbits do not have any idea of human national boundaries, but it is worth noting that our story takes place in a light-fantasy version of northern Europe, sometime during the 20th century. Plants and animals are generally restricted to what is actually found in the region. This area is in a temperate climate, and animals can tell time by passage of the seasons.

Our Home: Poisonwood Creek Warren

The center of action is a warren near Poisonwood Creek, a small but fast-flowing river that burbles through the hilly meadows. The warren is situated in brushy grassland on the north side of the creek. Poisonwood Forest is to the west, a dark, intimidating unknown. Few rabbits are bold enough to venture close to it.

The rabbits who live here recently arrived from an overcrowded warren to the east, called Rockeford. Rockeford Warren wasn't a bad place to live, but the younger rabbits lived on the outskirts, and many does of breeding age were unable to reproduce. Rockeford's elderly Chief Rabbit, Birch, realized it was time to break off a splinter group to settle at a new warren, and sent many dissatisfied young rabbits on their way with his blessing. They moved less than a mile away and discovered the warren at Poisonwood Creek. It was abandoned, but the runs were clean with no smell of death or disease. Why the previous occupants moved remains unknown, but the new rabbits settled in cheerfully.

Notable Rabbits

Bindweed

The Chief Rabbit of Poisonwood Creek. He was known for his bravery and physical prowess in the Warren Watch at Rockeford, but he is young for a Chief and his leadership is, so far, largely untried. The journey from Rockeford to Poisonwood was short and uneventful, and the warren has not yet drawn much attention from predators.

Bindweed tends to be a little uptight, but he's not unkind. He is well-known and well-liked amongst the rabbits who followed him to Poisonwood Creek. He has an honest face and has never been considered being particularly clever, but he inspires his people with his plainspoken honesty and sincerity. For a rabbit he seems almost fearless.

Thistle

Poisonwood Creek's Queen Rabbit. Like Bindweed, she is young, and as a result she is not well-suited to the highly-organized job of leading burrow-digging efforts. She and Bindweed have been friends since they were kittens, and grew closer as they grew into adulthood. He is attracted to her sincere enthusiasm and cleverness, and she likes his straightforward attitude.

Thistle is eager to go on adventures, and is obsessively fascinated with human beings. She will take almost any opportunity to abandon her duty in favor of something more interesting. She frequently overestimates her abilities, but can think quickly to get herself out of trouble.
